Mitos Pharmaceuticals is an early-stage cancer research and development company based in California. With pharmaceutical products in the clinical trial phase, but not yet approved and released on the market, Mitos' need for security was critical. They needed a way to distribute sensitive forms, patent application documents, records, and clinical trial information to members of their team and testing groups without fear of it being intercepted or distributed.
By making documents available to their associates online, Mitos' biggest security threat wasn't unauthorized individuals accessing their site. It was the fact that search engines routinely search all content made available in web directories for inclusion in their search indexes. Any PDFs, forms or documents stored in web directories would soon become available to anyone, simply by typing the right search phrases into any search engine. Mitos needed a way to allow authorized individuals to gain access to their information securely, while hiding documents from well-intended search engine indexing techniques.
We then created a secure login area with an account sign-up process to make Mitos' administration of the site easier. We used highly-secure programming to request access to the non-web directories where sensitive information was stored, serving it to authorized individuals in their browser.
The result was a site that enabled Mitos to distribute data to their associates easily and quickly—a process that was previously conducted via insecure email, or mail (for documents too large to email). The new site provided a drastic reduction of administrative man-hours, and offered convenience to associates involved with Mitos.
In addition to the secure login area of mitospharma.com, the public-facing aspect of Mitos' site allowed them to provide an overview of their company to prospective investors and prospective clinical trial sites.
